Interested in a novel that includes some Lancaster history?   I received a nice email from the author of a new biographical historical novel: Made to Last Forever: A Family. A House. A Nation.. It's primarily about the Fairbanks family, but they were close friends with the Prescott family -- the founders of Lancaster.

You can find it on Amazon.

Lancaster is the "oldest town in Worcester County" and there's a lot of history here.   I received a nice email from the author of a new novel, Made to Last Forever: A Family. A House. A Nation by Sharmin Fairbanks McKenny.    She sent along the blurb and press release, and a picture of the Fairbanks house as it still stands today in Dedham.

You can find a copy  on Amazon.

The novel is primarily about the Fairbanks Family, but they were close friends of the Prescott family here in Lancaster.

Something to check out if you're looking for a new book, or some gifts for the holidays.

The Fairbanks House (1637) in Dedham, MA

Made to Last Forever: A Family. A House. A Nation.

Three Hearths LLC proudly announces the release of Sharmin Fairbanks McKenny’s compelling biographical historical novel that traces the legacy of the Fairbanks family—builders of the oldest timber-frame house standing in the United States, constructed in 1637, in Dedham, Massachusetts. One son worked in the first successful ironworks in this nation. It is rich in historical detail, intrigue and emotion as it explores early colonial life and the complexities of family relationships during change and challenges that resonate today.
Jonathan and Grace Fairbanks flee the Plague and early religious and political turmoil of 17th century England in search for a better life. With their young family, they brave the perilous journey across the Atlantic, arriving in the wilderness of Massachusetts Bay Colony.
The novel vividly portrays the trials and triumphs of Jonathan Fairbanks as he struggles to claim land and secure a future, while Grace faces superstition, isolation, and the daily demands of survival. As hope begins to take root, tension arises when their son Jonas defies expectations—choosing his own path that leads him to the colony’s first successful ironworks at Hammersmith and ultimately to love in a new frontier.
Young adults and adults alike will enjoy the escape, entertainment and education. It has been touted by educators and principals as a rich, entertaining source of history for students. Rudyard Kipling said,” If history were taught in the form of stories, it would never be forgotten. The book is evergreen as it comes as the country prepares for the 400th anniversary of Boston/Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1630, Dedham in 2036 and The Fairbanks House in 2037.
Sharmin Fairbanks McKenny, the author, grew up on a traditional family farm and soloed in an airplane before she drove a car. Her career in nursing included pioneering as an early civilian emergency helicopter flight nurse. Sharmin has written for newspapers, historical societies, museums, and received a writing award from the National Daughters of the American Revolution. Ms. McKenny has experience in public speaking, television and radio and has maintained a historical blog for over 10 years at Fairbankshistory.com. See media page at
